What you’ll be doing

As a Principal Building Inspector, you will provide technical leadership and support across a diverse portfolio of projects while helping to develop and coordinate regional inspection teams. Working closely with surveyors, managers, developers and other stakeholders, you will:

• Lead, coach and mentor Building Surveyors, Assistants and Trainees, conducting regular 1 to 1 meetings, and supporting their professional development and progression through the RBI registration process.
• Support the coordination and development of regional inspection teams, promoting consistency, quality and compliance across all activities.
• Carry out inspections of residential, mixed-use and commercial developments, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, associated legislation and ICW Technical Standards.
• Act as a key technical contact on complex Building Regulation and warranty matters, providing expert guidance and support to clients and colleagues.
• Work collaboratively with management teams across the Group, helping to drive standardisation, continuous improvement and a one-team approach.
• Build strong relationships with developers, builders and clients, delivering a responsive, professional and solution-focused service.
• Ensure robust quality and compliance standards are maintained, supporting internal procedures, regulatory requirements and audit expectations.
• Manage your workload effectively while supporting others, ensuring service levels, quality standards and business objectives are achieved.

What we’re looking for

• Chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB.
• Registered Building Inspector at Level 2F or working towards achieving Level 2F registration.
• Significant experience of plan assessment and inspection of residential, mixed-use and commercial developments.
• Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with a passion for developing others.
• Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations, technical warranty standards and associated legislation.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
• Strong IT skills and experience using a range of software applications.
