Senior Structural Engineer

Job Role

Acting as the lead Structural Engineer in a multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for checking structural submissions of Building Control and Warranty applications for one of the market leading companies.

Responsibilities & Duties

Responsibilities include:

• Support surveyors with technical expertise on complex/high-rise developments.
• Carry out onsite inspections to ensure structural elements are in line with the submitted designs.
• Detailed assessments of structural calculations and design to ensure compliance with both the Building Regulations and Warranty requirements.
• Communicate with clients and their consultants to ensure design proposals satisfy the requirements of Building Control and Warranty.
• Assist the claims department on live claims to investigate and report on structural aspects.
• Where required prepare reports and offer advice to design teams, clients and departments and assess reports provided by others.

Knowledge, Qualifications and Skills

Demonstrate a sufficient knowledge and understanding of the factors (legal, technical etc) involved to make informed independent decisions and assessments regarding compliance of typical building work, including utilising input from other specialists in the following competencies:

• Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE, IStructE).

• Experience in the construction industry with relevant experience in Building Control and Structural Warranty.

• Excellent client facing and relationship building skills.

• Good communication skills both verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal skills.

• Ability to effectively manage a varied and busy workload.

• Able to work with the minimum of supervision, in line with company policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of relevant standards/legislation and environmental issues.

• IT literate with the ability to use a range of software programmes.
