MMC and structural defects in technicolour

Posted on May 10, 2021

MMC and structural defects in technicolour.

Modular construction is very much part of our next generation housing stock. To promote its take-up it needs support structures, very similar to the technology that assists with the new ways in which we are working today. One of these key support structures is the structural defects warranty. Here alongside construction legal experts Foot Anstey, we explore how various stakeholders approach a structural defects warranty, looking in turn at the point of view of each party throughout the process.

This article considers how a structural warranty works within the context of a project incorporating MMC, the role of accreditation and how stakeholders can navigate the various considerations in relations to defects.

You can read the full article on the Foot Anstey website here.

This article is a collaboration piece to build crucial industry links to positively enable the take-up of MMC and its role in sustainable construction. The authors are Michael Halfpenny (Head of Business Development, ICW), Suriya Edwards (Managing Associate, Construction, Foot Anstey LLP) and Katie Shire (Associate, Conveyancing, Foot Anstey LLP). For further details on MMC and stress-testing contracts please contact Foot Anstey LLP or for the ICW structural defects warranty and MMC accreditation, please get in touch with ICW by email on modular@i-c-w.co.uk

ICW Autumn Update 2020

Posted on November 19, 2020

More than ever, we’ve been working hard this year to maintain and build our client relationships so that we can continue to serve our customers and provide excellent levels of customer service. We are fortunate to have had a busy few months across the ICW Group and I’m excited to share some developments with you.

ICW Group has expanded it’s activities across the UK and we’ve taken on several new staff members in both our warranty and building control divisions. We’ve also made the exciting move to a new head office in Belfast and have been working on a new client portal that will be available soon.

This all builds from our progress earlier in 2020 as we signed a long-term deal with A-rated insurers Accelerant and successfully launched ICW Building Control.

With a reported increase in activity within the residential sector and signs of a buoyant housing market, there is a positive outlook for the wider construction industry with many companies working at pre-2020 levels as the government has focused on activity within the sector as a driver for wider economic recovery.

We look forward to continuing to assist all of our clients through an ongoing time of challenges for many businesses and would like to thank you for your support.

Aaron McCarten, Chief Operating Officer

ICW update regarding COVID-19

Posted on May 18, 2020

Over the last few months, we have adjusted to new ways of working to support clients and colleagues whilst protecting our staff and their families. Our sales, customer service and technical teams have been available whilst working remotely and our surveyors have been working safely to ensure any urgent site surveys can be completed. We have updated our guidance for site visits in line with government and industry safety advice and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Whilst we are preparing for a safe return to offices when permitted to do so, we will carry on working remotely for the time being and all usual lines of communication remain open.

We are thankful to be in a position to progress with our strategic plans for the group and are delighted to introduce our new insurance carrier Accelerant, an underwriting group that specialises in serving a carefully selected and managed network of member MGAs in Europe and the UK. We have agreed a long-term deal with Accelerant, who have been awarded an AM Best A- (Excellent) rating, and are confident that this partnership will ensure that we can continue to offer our clients reliable and sustainable cover.

In addition to agreeing a deal with our new insurance partner, earlier this year we expanded our service offering to include building control services. Licensed by the Construction Industry Council, ICW Building Control is an approved inspector providing building control services across England and Wales. With decades of knowledge and experience, the ICW Building Control team offers a comprehensive and cost-effective service. ICW update regarding Covid-19

Posted on March 27, 2020

In light of recent developments which are escalating at a rapid pace, we would like to share with you an important update on our efforts to protect our staff, clients and communities against the tangible threat of Covid-19.

We made the decision to temporarily close ICW Group head office and regional offices on Monday 23rd March, with all staff now working remotely. This will remain the case for at least the next three weeks.

We have invested in robust IT and communications systems that have enabled us to keep all usual lines of communication open, please continue to engage with us and we will do what we can to support you through this challenging time.

In line with government advice regarding building sites, as things stand our surveying teams will support clients with essential projects or final certificates only where is it safe to do so and adhering strictly to enhanced safety procedures. From close of business on Friday 27th March, we will pause our inspection activity and surveyors will not make any further site visits. We will continue to closely monitor and comply with government advice and will share any updates with you in the coming days and weeks.

We understand that these are challenging times for all of us. The safety of our staff, clients and communities remains our utmost priority. Stay safe and look after each other.
